Free Spirit Therapeutic Riding Association
FSTRA is an equine program based out of Rohan Wood Stables. They were founded in 2012 and have continued to grow and become a huge part of our community.
They offer corporate, family and non-profit workshops, therapeutic riding lessons 4 days a week and a camp every summer. The camp and lessons are open to children ages 3+ who present mental health concerns or may have exceptionalities. Their camp offers a safe space where the kids can just be themselves!
This is the third year in a row that I have had the opportunity to go out and photograph their summer camp. I am always left with this warm and fuzzy feeling for all of the amazing work they do. It's very inspiring to see how many of these kids just light up when they get on their horse. Most times I go in the morning and capture the equine aspect (the riding, horsemanship, barn chores). This time, however, I went after lunch and got a chance to see a bit more of what they do. The kids made these really awesome paintings, danced it out with some Zumba and got their heart rates up with a run, jump, throw course. They also had a chance to do some music therapy with Kindermusik.
If you are looking for a way to help out, FSTRA is always in need of financial help (sponsorships, donations) or you can always go volunteer! www.fstra.org
I included some images from last years camp at the bottom! :)
